See – Ride -Sail -Ski

We often get asked what sort of holidays do we do? Well the answer is absolutely everything, so we have created a menu:

SEE – What would you like to see, or where do you want to go? It might be Sydney Opera House, Matchu Picchu or experience a Safari on the African Plain, or it could be just a relaxing holiday and watch the sea lap the beaches under a palm tree.

RIDE – As you might have read, Mike is a keen cyclist and has ridden all over the World and we want to also promote the health benefits of cycling. We have some really extraordinary trips in new and up and coming destinations. We also work with some fantastic Activity Holiday Specialists, so if laying on the beach isn’t for you, then we can find something which will keep you occupied whilst you are away.

SAIL – Being regular Cruisers, we can help you find a cruise that suits you. With so many new ships being built, it can be sometimes a daunting process of trying to find a cruise. There are all types of ships out there, Resort Ships, Boutique Yachts, Ultra Luxury, Family Cruises or the very popular Expedition Cruises.

SKI – We both like to see, Gerry more than Mike, and we have some amazing destinations to go skiing. We have skied in New Zealand, USA, Canada and Europe.

We have just returned home from our favourite Canary Island – Fuerteventura. We have been a few times now, and we love it for cycling, the beaches are great, it is less developed than the other islands, and the prices for getting there are really competitive. If you like to surf, or are into water sports, then the island is for you. We also learned this time that is it a great destination for Scuba Diving. With a flight time of just over 4 hours, you will arrive on the island with clear blue sea, unspoiled beaches with so much space around you. We stayed in Corralejo which is a 30 minute drive from the airport and we stayed in the Mirador de Lobos Villas just outside of the town.

Cycling Cruises.

You might have seen that we have relaunched our Cycling Cruises. Originally Ridings Travel was called Velo Cruise and we were selling Cycling Cruises, then we realised that we can sell any type of holiday, and building up Ridings Travel took quite a lot of time and Velo Cruise was put on the back burner for a while. The name Velo Cruise, according to some feedback was causing some confusion so we have had a complete rename to Cycling Cruises so hopefully there won’t be any confusion any more. We do what it says on the tin. We can help you arrange your Cycling Cruise on an individual basis or group, but we are hosting our very own in October 2019. Please visit our Cycling Cruise section on the website.

Well we enjoyed New Year in Australia, starting the events by going on a fantastic bike ride in Sydney with Global Cycle Rides. Having ridden in Australia on a few occasions it is a new and exciting cycling destination. We can arrange a 3 Centre Tour, any city you like and GCR will come and meet you at your hotel, take you out on the roads and drop you back. All you need is your cycling kit and pedals.

Yorkshire Coast Radio

Well it is nearly Christmas. We would like to wish all of our clients a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Mike is heading off again, so follow his journey on Facebook and Twitter.

If you live in the Bridlington area, you should be hearing that we are sponsoring The Saturday Morning Show for the next few weeks, and we have something exciting to announce in the New Year.

New York

Mike has recently visited New York. Watch our video to show that the city isn’t necessarily all about the shopping.

Free Lounge Passes on our 2018/2019 Holidays

Black Friday

It is Black Friday here at Ridings and there are so many deals out there. We are sharing them on our Facebook page too. To be honest – Black Friday goes on until next week, and you can always keep checking our Offers page here or even call us for the very latest prices.

Its November already

So here we are in November and this year is just flying by. Over the past few weeks we have been travelling to the United States, we went on a cruise and then Mike had to do some training in Zurich so we are now just starting to catch up on things.
We are launching out Get Fit Cycling campaign to get more people on the road and shedding the pounds. This is at Mikes heart because he is about to sign up for the Yorkshire Wolds Cycling Challenge, which involves riding 144 miles over 2 days in July. We are going to be putting something together to enable you to come to Yorkshire and take part yourselves, spaces are limited though, so it is a first come first served basis.
You will also notice that we are doing ‘Themed’ days on our Facebook page @RidingsTravel which is great fun, but it also allows us to showcase the many different holidays that we offer throughout the week.

Please keep following us on Twitter @RidingsTravelUK and @RidingsCycling and of course on our Facebook page. Until next time

Tour de Yorkshire 2018

Welcome To Yorkshire announced the Host Towns for the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire and we are really excited. Two of the Host Towns are right on our doorstep so that is great news for us. The Tour starts on the 3rd May and finishes on the 6th, so it has been extended by one day to 4 days. We are already working on putting together a Travel Package for those wanting to watch the race and also ride the amazing roads up here.

October CLIA Plan A Cruise Month

We absolutely love our cruises here at Ridings Travel. We have experienced so many, from 3* right up to the 6* Ultra Luxury. The only trouble I find with the cruise industry is that there are so many to choose from, but is that a good thing. The choices range from Big Ship to Small Ship to Ultra Luxury to the Soft Expedition Cruise. We believe that it is important the we sit with our clients to find a cruise to meet their needs and requirements. The very first reason we started Ridings Travel was a very good friend of mine was sold a cruise that was just not for her and she absolutely hated it. I sometimes compare a cruise to finding a pair of shoes, and you should spend as much time looking for a cruise as you would a pair of shoes (ladies you’ll understand). We all have our preferences and not everyone is looking for the same thing. So contact us to make that appointment to give you your perfect cruise experience

Cycling – Yorkshire named as UCI Bike Region

It is fantastic news to hear that Yorkshire has become an officially recognised UCI Bike Region. As the only supplier of cycling holidays to Yorkshire who actually live in Yorkshire we cannot wait to Welcome you over here.

This is an extract from a report by our friends at Yorkshire Coast Radio, please click here to read the full story

Yorkshire’s reputation as a world-class cycling destination has been further enhanced today by becoming the first place in the UK to be officially recognised as a UCI Bike Region.

Yorkshire received the award from cycling’s world governing body the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) at a glitzy ceremony in Bergen, Norway, where the UCI Road World Championships are currently taking place.

The county was one of five cities and regions to receive the accolade this year along with Fyn (Denmark), Gelderland (Holland), Heusden-Zolder (Belgium) and Woensdrecht (Holland).

Cape Verde Islands

We recently visited the Cape Verde Islands which were amazing. Here is what we thought….

Islands of the eternal summer!

The sun shines 350 days a year and temperatures range between 21°C and 29°C. The breeze blows constantly from the ocean at a relatively low average humidity of 40% to 60%.

Instead of the classic four seasons, the Cape Verde Islands only have two: The Tempo das Brisas (time of the winds) from October to mid-July and the Tempo das chuvas (rainy season) from August to September, when there may be heavy tropical rainfall. The coolest months are January and February (average temperature of 21°C), where temperatures can drop down to a chilly 16°C ; the warmest is the month of September (up to 36°C) with an average temperature of a pleasant 27°C. The nights can also cool down by about 3ºC – 5°C.
The water temperature ranges between 22°C and 27°C throughout the year; the north-east passat, which is active during the tempo das brisas, is especially popular with the surfers.

Otherwise, the islands of Barlavento (Santo Antão, São Vicente, São Nicolao, Boa Vista, Sal, Santa Luzia, Branco and Razo) are always somewhat cooler than those of the Sotavento (Maio, Santiago, Fogo and Brava), where summers can be quite hot.

UCI Road World Cycling Championships 2019 Yorkshire

UCI World Road Championships comes to Yorkshire 2019

We keep on saying that Yorkshire is fast becoming the Cycling Capital of Great Britain. And with Yorkshire being our home county then we must be your experts to come to if you are looking to visit the area.
The world’s top cyclists are once again set to descend on Yorkshire after the region won the bid to host the UCI Road World Championships in 2019.
Yorkshire’s stunning scenery is set to be showcased to millions as riders such as Mark Cavendish and recent winner Tony Martin compete in five categories over nine days of racing.
Riders will visit all parts of the county over the course of the championships, with organisers confirming that some of the Tour de France and Tour de Yorkshire routes will also be used.
This means that visitors to Flower of May’s holiday parks will once again have a front row seat to some of the best cycling action seen in the UK for over 30 years.
‘Even bigger than 2014’
The UCI Road World Championships in 2019 is set to be a far bigger event than the Grand Depart – the start of the Tour de France in 2014 – which was a huge draw for visitors. Thousands of spectators lined the routes throughout the county, with banners in towns, villages and on top of the region’s biggest peaks.
The bid to host the championships was submitted by Welcome to Yorkshire, British Cycling, UK Sport and the Department of Culture Media and Sport. The UK Government has guaranteed to underwrite the full cost of the event and back it with £24 million of investment.
The news of the successful bid was welcomed by Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire.
“We are delighted and honoured to announce that Yorkshire has been chosen to host the 2019 UCI Road World Championships,” he said.
He told the Guardian that although it wouldn’t be possible to visit every town, city and village, the championships would use some of the Tour de France and Tour de Yorkshire routes.
“The objective is to visit every part of Yorkshire, north, east, west and south,” he said.
“Yorkshire has shown it can host world-class events with the Grand Depart and Tours de Yorkshire, and now the county has been chosen to host the nine-day UCI Road World Championships in 2019.
“We have got the scenery, the crowds, and the warm welcome, and we are sure the world’s best riders will love the challenging roads we have to offer.”

Fact file:

The UCI Road World Championships is one of the most prestigious events on the professional cycling calendar.
Future UCI Road World Championships:
* 2017 – Bergen (Norway)
* 2018 – Innsbruck (Austria)

1,000 of the best male and female riders from around 75 countries around the globe compete for the chance to win the iconic rainbow jersey.
The event takes place over nine days and includes individual and team time trials as well as full road races for Under 18, Under 23 and Elite riders.
6,000-7,000 national federation members, delegates, technicians and journalists set to be in attendance.
A predicted global televised audience in excess of 300 MILLION.
The full route of the race in Yorkshire will be announced over the coming months.
News of the successful bid was welcomed by organisers and ministers.
UCI President Brian Cookson OBE said: “The UCI Management Committee is pleased to award the UCI Road World Championships to Yorkshire in 2019. Since hosting the Tour de France’s Grand Départ in 2014 and subsequent Tours de Yorkshire, the county has proved it is a fitting host for road cycling’s leading annual event and we are sure there will be world class crowds to match.”
Tracey Crouch, Minister for Sport added: “I am delighted that our bid to host the UCI Road World Championships in 2019 has been successful. The government is backing the event with investment to stage the Championships and leave a legacy that will help strengthen cycling at the grassroots across the country.”

I (Mike) have been talking about Ridings Cycling ever since we launched it at the Cycling Holiday Show back in April. Working with Global Cycle Rides we can support your ride with a local ride leader to make sure you stay on the right road.

Starting in 2018 we are introducing ‘Our Way of the Roses’. Living in thestart or finish point, Bridlington, we see lots of riders who have completed to gruelling 170 mile ride and not have a proper Welcome into the town. With Our Way of the Roses, we ensure that your needs and requirements are met along the route, and you will be welcomed into the town with a glass of champagne and if required, we’ll transport you and your bikes to a luxury holiday park which has its own swimming pool, gym and Jacuzzi. So you can relax the aches and pain away, we are also able to organise a celebration for your hard work and effort.

Something that we have been planning for a couple of years now is bookable for 2018. We’ll transport you and your bike to Hull, or you may choose to ride there, we’ll sail overnight to Rotterdam, we’ll be met by our Ride Leaders and head our for a 60 mile ride about the Netherlands. We will then return to the port of Rotterdam to meet the ship for our return sailing back to Hull.

So here we are, quite a long time since we have posted on the Blog. So much has happened. We have had a bit of a name change from Ridings Cruises to Ridings Travel, we have introduced Ridings Cycling to our business and we have hosted our very own Cycling Holiday Show earlier in the year.
We have enjoyed a successful year so far, and we are seeing repeat customers booking with us, and we are attracting new customers all of the time.
Ridings Travel is now the ONLY totally Independent Travel Agent in Bridlington and surrounding area, we are focused on our clients needs rather than meeting targets or selling something to you which we are getting paid extra money to sell to you.
Our future is much as it is now, we are attending local events and Gala’s, and of course Wedding Fayres, we will hopefully do something on Bridlington Seafront in a few weeks which is exciting for us, so please keep an eye on our Facebook page and Twitter, and we will try and keep the Blog updated on a more regular basis now. Mike & Gerry
